Robotaxis operated by Baidu’s Apollo Go experienced significant issues in Wuhan, China, leaving passengers stuck in vehicles for up to two hours, according to multiple reports and social media posts.
Baidu has yet to disclose the cause of the outage, but local police attributed it to a ‘system failure’ affecting at least 100 robotaxis, as reported by Reuters. The malfunction caused the vehicles to halt abruptly, sometimes in hazardous locations like the fast lane, according to Wired. Authorities are continuing to investigate.
Baidu, a major player in China’s robotaxi market, has extended its services to the Middle East. In 2022, Baidu announced plans to deploy over 1,000 autonomous vehicles in Dubai in the coming years.
