DoorDash says it removed a driver’s account after reports that the individual used an artificial intelligence-generated image to falsely confirm a delivery in Austin, Texas.
Austin resident Byrne Hobart posted about the incident on X, stating the driver marked his order as delivered and submitted an AI-generated photo showing a DoorDash bag at his doorstep. Hobart compared the submitted image with his actual front door, implying the photo was fabricated.
Following the post’s circulation, Hobart acknowledged the story could be fabricated but noted that another user claimed a similar experience in Austin with a driver using the same display name.
Hobart speculated the driver may have accessed previous delivery photos through a hacked account and jailbroken phone, though this has not been confirmed.
A DoorDash spokesperson told TechCrunch, “After quickly investigating this incident, our team permanently removed the Dasher’s account and ensured the customer was made whole. We have zero tolerance for fraud and use a combination of technology and human review to detect and prevent bad actors from abusing our platform.”
