Elon Musk said he would not reprise his role at the Department of Government Efficiency, telling former Trump administration official Katie Miller that the initiative was “somewhat successful” but ultimately not worth the backlash it generated.
“We were a little bit successful,” Musk said. But he would not take on the cost-cutting effort again. Instead, Musk would have worked at his companies, and they “wouldn’t have been burning cars,” he said, referring to the spate of vandalism targeting Tesla cars and dealerships.
DOGE aimed to identify waste across federal agencies and streamline government operations. Musk played a central role in shaping the program’s structure, advising on audits and digital modernization.
