Putin Invited to Join Trump-Led Gaza Peace Board, Kremlin Says

Summary

Russian President Vladimir Putin was invited to join a U.S.-led peace board for Gaza, according to the Kremlin.

Why this matters

The invitation signals a rare diplomatic gesture amid broader tensions between the U.S. and Russia, and could influence future efforts in Middle East peace negotiations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to join a proposed international peace board for Gaza, the Kremlin said Monday.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Putin had “received an offer through diplomatic channels” and that Russia plans to follow up with U.S. officials for more details.

The proposal comes as part of President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza, which outlines steps for achieving lasting peace and reconstruction in the territory. The initiative follows two years of conflict between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas.

According to announcements made Saturday, Argentine President Javier Milei and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have agreed to join the board. Invites have also been extended to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has criticized the plan, saying it was not coordinated with his government.

The invitation comes as the U.S. continues efforts to negotiate an end to Russia’s nearly four-year war in Ukraine.
