At least 12 people were killed and dozens were wounded in Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine overnight, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 656 drones and 73 missiles late Monday into Tuesday. It said the main targets were Kyiv, the central city of Dnipro, and the eastern cities of Poltava, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian air defenses destroyed or suppressed 40 missiles and 602 drones, the air force said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least four people were killed in the capital and 58 others, including two children, were wounded in what he called a “mass enemy attack.” Earlier, he warned residents: “Explosions in the city. Air defence forces are working! Stay in shelters!”
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Gov. Oleksandr Ganzha said at least eight people were killed and 36 others, including children, were wounded. In Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said 10 people, including a child, were wounded.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence said the strike used “high-precision weapons” against targets in Kyiv and the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as energy and transport infrastructure used by the Ukrainian military in other regions.
Meanwhile, in Russia, a Ukrainian drone attack killed one person in the Kursk region near the border, Gov. Alexander Khinshtein said. Another drone attack caused a fire at an oil refinery in Krasnodar, local authorities said on Telegram.
