TikTok launches U.S. app for World Cup, fan events

Summary

TikTok launched a U.S. stand-alone app for cultural events, starting with features tied to the FIFA World Cup.

Why this matters

The launch shows TikTok expanding into stand-alone event-focused products and adding ways for users, creators, and advertisers to engage around major moments. For users, it offers another place to follow World Cup content and earn rewards tied to in-app activity.

TikTok said Wednesday that it was launching a stand-alone app in the United States focused on cultural events, including the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

The app, TikTok Pro Events, lets users engage with other fans, watch trending videos, and browse curated creator feeds.

Users 18 and older can earn Stars by completing activities in the app, including searching trending hashtags, visiting the FIFA World Cup hub, and sharing content. Stars can be redeemed for FIFA World Cup merchandise in an in-app store, TikTok Shop coupons, or TikTok-funded charitable donations through Feeding America.

TikTok said users can also access FIFA World Cup 2026 hubs in its main app by searching “FIFA World Cup.” The hubs are powered by TikTok GamePlan, which the company describes as a suite of products for sports teams, leagues, and broadcasters to increase discovery and fan engagement. The hubs include tournament-related content, creators, and broadcaster highlights.

TikTok Pro Events is available in the U.S. through Apple’s App Store and Google Play.

The launch expands TikTok’s efforts beyond its main social media and entertainment platform and creates another way to reach fans around major events.
