Trump Vows Action, Warns of More US Losses in Iran Conflict

Summary

President Trump addresses U.S. troop deaths from Iran conflict, anticipates more.

Why this matters

The ongoing conflict with Iran raises significant geopolitical tensions, impacting international relations and regional stability while involving key global players.

President Donald Trump addressed the nation in a video message on Sunday, responding to the deaths of three American service members following joint U.S.-Israeli military actions against Iran. Trump asserted the importance of continuing military operations despite the American casualties.

The President expressed condolences for the fallen service members and noted that five others were severely injured. “We grieve for the true American patriots who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” Trump stated, while calling for prayers for the wounded.

Trump warned of potential further losses, saying, “Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends. But we’ll do everything possible where that won’t be the case.”

The U.S. Central Command, based in Tampa, Florida, announced the casualties as part of Operation Epic Fury but did not specify the timing or location. These are the first U.S. losses since an attack on Iran was ordered on Saturday.

The Central Command also reported other minor injuries but stated these service members would return to duty. “Major combat operations continue and our response effort is ongoing,” the statement read.

Trump’s video, posted on his Truth Social platform, aimed to prepare the public for a potentially prolonged campaign, suggesting it could last “four weeks or so.” He emphasized the threat posed by Iran, asserting, “An Iranian regime armed with long-range missiles and nuclear weapons would be a dire threat to every American,” despite a lack of credible evidence of Iran seeking nuclear weapons.

Iran’s military activities have targeted U.S. bases, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has threatened further action. Meanwhile, allies like the UK have offered support, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer allowing the use of British bases for defensive purposes.

Trump declared that the joint U.S.-Israeli operation was “one of the largest, most complex, most overwhelming military offensives the world has ever seen,” citing extensive targets hit in Iran. He urged the Revolutionary Guard to surrender for immunity or face consequences, encouraging Iranian citizens to “be brave, be bold, be heroic, and take back your country.”
