President Donald Trump announced that U.S. military operations have resulted in the sinking of nine Iranian naval ships. Trump posted on X that some of the ships were ‘relatively large and important.’ He also mentioned that Iran’s naval headquarters sustained significant damage.
U.S. Central Command reported that an Iranian Jamaran-class corvette was attacked as part of Operation Epic Fury. The vessel is reportedly sinking at a Chah Bahar pier in the Gulf of Oman. The statement urged members of Iran’s armed forces to disarm and abandon their posts.
Three American service members were reported killed, and five seriously wounded, during these operations, according to Central Command.
U.S. B-2 stealth bombers targeted Iranian ballistic missile sites with 2,000-lb. bombs. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ claims of hitting the USS Abraham Lincoln were denied by U.S. military officials, stating the missiles missed.
The Lincoln carrier strike group, alongside the Gerald R. Ford, remains operational as part of increased U.S. military presence in the region. The strikes started early Saturday, targeting Iranian security installations posing imminent threats.
An attack that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was confirmed by Israeli and U.S. officials, marking a significant point in the conflict.
The Iranian Red Crescent Society reported over 200 fatalities and more than 700 injuries in the ongoing conflict.
