Eli Lilly presented trial results on Saturday showing its experimental obesity drug retatrutide reduced sleep apnea severity, eased knee osteoarthritis pain, and supported weight loss.
In a Phase 3 trial, Lilly said a weekly injection of retatrutide reduced moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea severity by 60.6% in adults with obesity. Lilly’s older drug Zepbound is already approved for that condition.
In the same trial, Lilly said retatrutide reduced knee osteoarthritis pain by up to 73.1%. The results were presented at the American Diabetes Association conference in New Orleans.
Lilly had previously disclosed results from the two studies presented Saturday showing patients with obesity lost 28% of body weight and adults with Type 2 diabetes had significant reductions in blood sugar levels.
In one of the studies, 2% of patients with diabetes who took the lowest dose of retatrutide had major adverse cardiovascular events. The detailed results, published Saturday in The Lancet, said those events were not necessarily caused by the drug.
