U.S. stocks hit records, Nvidia gains on chip debut

Summary

U.S. stocks closed at records Monday as Nvidia rallied and investors tracked U.S.-Iran developments and oil prices.

Why this matters

The moves showed how geopolitical developments and major technology announcements can quickly affect stocks and oil. Friday’s jobs report could further shape expectations for Federal Reserve policy and broader market direction.

U.S. stocks rose to fresh records Monday as investors watched U.S.-Iran talks and Nvidia’s debut of a new laptop chip.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged above the flat line. The S&P 500 rose nearly 0.3% to close above 7,600. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite added 0.4% as announcements at the Computex Taipei conference lifted technology shares and offset weakness elsewhere. Nvidia rose more than 6%, and software stocks also posted gains.

Oil prices trimmed earlier gains after President Donald Trump said on social media that he had a “very productive call” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that no troops would be heading into Beirut.
