Israeli strikes kill 4 in Gaza, medics say

Summary

Gaza health officials said Israeli strikes killed at least four Palestinians on Sunday, as Israel reported separate strikes on Hamas commanders.

Why this matters

The story tracks renewed violence in Gaza as indirect talks between Israel and Hamas remain stalled. It also highlights competing accounts of Israeli strikes and the difficulty of assessing civilian and militant casualties.

Israeli strikes killed at least four Palestinians in Gaza on Sunday, health officials said.

Medics said one Palestinian was killed in a strike near a police post in Khan Younis in southern Gaza. The Israeli military said it killed a militant who posed an immediate threat to forces operating in the area.

In a separate incident, Gaza medics said an Israeli airstrike killed at least three people at a community kitchen near Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on that strike.

Israel has increased attacks in Gaza in recent weeks after halting its joint bombing campaign with the United States in Iran. The military has said Hamas fighters are tightening their grip in the territory.

Israel and Hamas remained deadlocked in indirect talks over advancing President Donald Trump’s postwar plan for Gaza, which is intended to end more than two years of fighting.

About 870 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since the October ceasefire, according to figures that do not distinguish between civilians and combatants. Four Israeli soldiers were killed by militants during the same period. Hamas does not disclose casualty figures for its fighters.
