North Carolina officials announced Sunday that Raleigh will host an all-day Fourth of July event at the State Capitol as part of the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.
The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources said the event, called “Capitol 250: NC Freedom Fest,” will mark the United States’ 250th birthday with arts, history, and cultural programming.
Organizers said the festival will include a Revolutionary War area, a “Military Through the Ages” area, and exhibits inside the Capitol.
“It really is going to be all the things. We’re going to have both a Revolutionary War area and a ‘Military Through the Ages’ area,” said Ansley Herring Wegner, an organizer for Capitol 250. “There’ll be exhibits inside the Capitol.”
The festival will also feature music from Tift Merritt and Rissi Palmer, along with more than 50 vendors and food trucks.
Capitol 250 organizers said the event will complement a morning parade organized by the North Carolina Department of Labor and evening fireworks at Dix Park organized by the City of Raleigh.
